SMOKIN ACRES
2005 FOALS

CHIEF

Chief
Chief was born to Shawnee Sands and Wimpys Lucky Pine. At 4:30 a.m. I went out to check on our over due mares and to my surprise, Lucky had company. Chief was still a little damp and had not stood up yet, but was making attempts. I believe he will be black, but it is too early to tell. Chief is confirmationally correct , friendly and has a super performance pedigree. He was so well liked by the other horses that he was actually "stolen" by our BLM mare, Spook, the next morning. Needless to say, I had to interfere and Lucky and Chief spent the next couple days in the paddock by themselves, bonding. All is well now, and they are back with the herd. This picture was taken the day after the "stealing" incident.
UPDATE

On 6/14/05 I went out to the pasture to get Lucky for re-breeding and found her standing over Chief's lifeless body. It appeared that he was kicked in the head. Hide was missing from his forehead and blood was coming from his nose. Lucky is adjusting, but it is obvious she misses her son.
